Why choose the MICAS Master’s programme?

The MICAS Master’s programme focuses on understanding and studying the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying chronic neurological, inflammatory and metabolic diseases, as well as how these are influenced by the gut microbiota, diet and the environment. It is underpinned by a vibrant student life

This teaching and research programme draws on the unique scientific and clinical expertise of the research units at the Nantes site (Nantes University, Oniris VetAgroBio, Inserm, INRAE – click on the logos) which are recognised in a variety of fields such as neurobiology, the microbiome, gastroenterology, metabolism, allergology, nutrition, biomedicine, as well as bioinformatics and systems biology.

Year 1 (M1) Programme: The aim is to help students progress from an understanding of health and disease to practical laboratory work. The year focuses on applying the latest scientific and methodological advances in the field of chronic diseases, as well as on mobilising the necessary resources to explore these complex issues.

Year 2 (M2) Programme: Students focus more on applying the knowledge they have acquired, with an approach centred on pathophysiology, prevention and innovative therapies. Scientific and clinical evidence regarding the effects of the environment, diet and the microbiome on health and disease lies at the heart of the curriculum. Immersion in the student’s chosen professional field is also prioritised, either through a work-study programme in industry or an internship in an academic or industrial research laboratory.
