Preparing for your arrival

Checklist of important documents to bring with you to France

For each member of the family, you need to bring the originals of the following documents and a few copies:

  • Birth certificate and marriage certificate (these documents may carry an apostille or legalisation. To find out if your nationality is concerned: www.prefecturedepolice.interieur.gouv.fr/data/aide/apostille/
  • Latest diplomas
  • Driving licence
  • Valid passport specific to each person
  • for non-Europeans, the host agreement of researcher or teacher-researcher (numbered and stamped).

Official translations will be required, and it is preferable to have them done in France by by a sworn translator.

The following documents may be useful:

  • European social security card or private health insurance certificate
  • proof of funding for the research stay: grant, fellowship, etc.
  • health record for you and the accompanying family, including all previous vaccinations
  • most recent tax return from your last country of residence

For children:

  • school reports attesting to the level achieved.

You will be asked to provide passport photographs that meet French standards. It is therefore preferable to wait until you arrive to take them in the recommended photo booths.
