Applying to take a PhD degree

Registration for the first year of a PhD degree is announced by Oniris’s Senior Management, based on a proposal from the doctoral school’s director, once an opinion has been given by the PhD supervisor and the unit director.

To apply for the first year of a PhD degree, you should:

  • hold a nationally recognised master’s degree or an equivalent master’s qualification (on an exceptional basis, special dispensation from the requirement of a master’s qualification may be requested and this request will be considered by the doctoral school and the institute – a summary of research experience (internship, publication, etc.) should be submitted with this special request);
  • have received approval from a PhD supervisor;
  • have funding for the entire duration of the PhD degree.

Initial submission of PhD proposal and selection of applicant

Unless special arrangements have been made, PhD proposals should be submitted by the PhD supervisor on the online portal "Thèses en Bretagne Loire" (https://theses.doctorat-bretagneloire.fr/). A procedure for selecting applicants should be set up and validated by the doctoral school. Each doctoral school is organised differently.

Registration steps

Put together your application by completing the required information on the Amethis website (https://amethis.doctorat-bretagneloire.fr/amethis-client/login) and downloading the documents listed below.
