ONIRIS' specificities, Nantes-Atlantic National College of Veterinary Medicine, Food Science and Engineering

Students at the heart of their training

The pedagogical methods within ONIRIS focus on the student, as an actor of their own training.
Indeed, the student is led to do regular in-depth work, on their own but also interacting with others. This is made possible thanks to:

- a reduction in lectures in amphitheatres,

- a higher number of interactive tutorials in small groups,

- the writing out of scientific paper reviews, reports, clinical cases and papers on various topics,

- an on-line learning platform providing teaching support material, photos, videos, self-assessment tests, intranet forums.

The foreign language preparation of students for their mobility and professional life

The wide range of jobs offered to veterinary students reaches far beyond the French borders. They include mainly “traditional” clinical jobs, but also professions related to the sanitary safety of Man in front of the risks deriving from animals, animal products and production, as well as research activities, industry etc.

Whatever the job in view, students have to train and open their minds through studies or training periods abroad, the analysis of scientific papers in English, the discussion of clinical cases in English etc.

Furthermore, English learning is intensified throughout the syllabus. In addition to the specific English classes, 10% of each course unit is taught with various methods using the English language.
